The West Highland Way was opened in 1980, becoming Scotland’s first Long Distance Route and now designated by NatureScot as one of Scotland's Great Trails. The route stretches 96 miles (154 km) from Milngavie on the northern edge of Glasgow to Fort William, known as the outdoor capital of Scotland.
